Here’s How This Will Relate To Purchasing A Home …
I played football for Saint Mary’s University for several years in Halifax, NS
and in total for about 10 years of my life.
(if you’ve ever been to the East Coast, it’s beautiful isn’t it :-))
Football is one of those sports where 90% of your time is spent practicing for
the game.
You’ll practice 6 days a week and play 1 day.
You’ll train 10 months of the year and play for 2 months.
You get the picture …
Football, like many sports, is about focusing on ACTIVITIES that will
bring you success.
Practice those success ACTIVITIES and results are sure to follow.
What’s counter-intuitive is that most of these success activities are
relentless practice of the fundamentals.
Here Are The Success Activities For First Time Home Buyers:
1. Pay Your Bills On Time.
35% of your credit score is determined by your PAYMENT HISTORY.
Hard times will fall on just about everyone in their life. Do your best to
weather that storm by making the minimum payments, on time, for any
outstanding bills you have.
2. Save Your Money.
The minimum down payment to purchase a home in Canada is 5%.
If you purchase a $400K home, your minimum down payment is
therefore $20K.
The larger your down payment, the less you have to borrow and the
less interest you’ll pay over the lifetime of having a Mortgage.
3. Think Long Term.
Real Estate is an emotional thing. Buying and selling a home will bring
about up’s and down’s. These emotions are addicting. When you purchase
a home, understand you’ll want to own it for at least 5 years before moving.
I’ve had people buy a house, then turn around and ask me how much
they could sell it for. I think they want those “good feelings” in their brain
again.

Here is an image of me catching a ball while playing for the Wolverines, in
the Calgary Men’s Flag Football League about a year and a half ago. Nice
timing of the pic hey!
